WEIGHT LOSS MANAGEMENT – NHS ENGLAND Guidance

Who is eligible for Mounjaro from General Practice (GP) right now?

The NHS has recently released the criteria for accessing weight loss injections via your GP Surgery.

The first phase cohort (patients) eligible for Mounjaro on the NHS are only for those with a Body Mass Index (BMI) 40 (or above) and with 4 of 5 defined comorbidities (conditions):

  1. Diagnosed hypertension
  2. Diagnosed sleep apnoea
  3. Diagnosed type 2 diabetes
  4. Diagnosed cardiovascular disease
  5. Diagnosed hypercholesterolemia

If you do not have a BMI of 40 (or above) and four of the five comorbidities above, the surgery will not be able to prescribe you Mounjaro for weight loss management.

We have received many queries from patients wishing to see a GP to discuss their eligibility for this new service, resulting in unnecessary appointments/administration for patients that do not qualify within the NHS Weight Loss Management framework.

We have identified our patients who are eligible for the NHS weight loss management service, and we will be in contacting them directly to discuss further.
