Repeat Prescriptions

Download the NHS App

We strongly advise patients to download, activate & use the NHS APP NHS App and your NHS account – NHS (www.nhs.uk) The NHS APP enables you to order your repeat medication (and perform many other tasks / actions see website for details).

Repeat Prescriptions

Edlesborough Surgery can dispense to patients who live more than 1mile/1.6km from the nearest Pharmacy (otherwise it will be dispensed from the nearest Pharmacy unless you request an alternative).

Typically, the repeat prescription will be for 28 days supply – there are some exceptions. Your doctor will not usually need to see you for each repeat prescription ordered. The doctor may include information on the tear-off-portion of the prescription (known as the right-hand-side) or on the medicine labels to keep you posted on the requirement for routing tests / examinations.

Patients needing to order repeat prescriptions should use any of the following methods (1) NHS APP (quickest) as the request is sent directly to the GP for authorisation, (2) Administration Triage – Repeat Prescription (https://florey.accurx.com/p/K82079) or (3) slip attached to their last prescription (alternatively letter) (slowest).

Patients need to reorder their repeat prescriptions when they are getting close to the end of the current medicine dispense. Your repeat medication request should be submitted a minimum of 7 working days before you need your medication. The dispensing clock starts the working day after we receive your request. Remember that your repeat medication request requires authorisation before dispensing can commence (this typically takes 1 working day). Patients should not order further in advance than 10 working days as there is a risk that the repeat prescription request will be rejected.

Allow 7 working days (i.e. excluding weekends, bank holidays, etc.) starting the day after you submit the request for prescriptions to be approved and dispensed.

Medicines Wastage: Many items prepared by our dispensers are never collected. We are often returned carrier bags full of medication that have not been used. This represents wasted staff time and is a significant expense to the NHS. NHS Buckinghamshire requests that we ask patients to reorder medication themselves to reduced wastage.

Medication Reviews

Patients will be asked to attend a medication review typically once-per-year. These medication reviews are typically scheduled on the patients birth month. Please ensure that you book an appointment when asked to avoid unnecessary delays to your medication being issued.

We have updated our Medication Prescribing Policy to ensure that the partnership & responsibilities between patient & Surgery are clear.

Emergency Repeat Prescription Requests

Patients who have lost their repeat medication, ordered their repeat medication with insufficient lead-time for dispensing or have another reason why they need an urgent supply of medication will need to engage with the NHS111 Emergency Prescription service as described in the following document Urgent REPEAT Medication / Prescription Requests

Understanding the Dossette/Monitored Dosage System (MDS) Process

We have prepared a document that explains the Dossette/Monitored Dosage System (MDS) process which resides with your nominated Pharmacy: Dossette v1

NOTE: Continuation of Dossette/MDS box(es) cannot be enforced by Edlesborough Surgery it is entirely the responsibility of the Pharmacist and they take the responsibility for that decision.
